A brief summary of the African Restaurant Landscape in Cape Town
In relation to restaurants, the word “African food” is broad. It is mostly owing to the distinctive flavours, recipes, spice combinations, and culture. You can’t talk about African food without including culture. The argument is that food expresses history, values, and culture, which have been imprinted on numerous delicacies.
Customers who visit such restaurants are searching for a spectacular African gastronomical experience. This experience is influenced by factors such as food quality, freshness, and flavour; décor, atmosphere, and sanitary level; and staff civility and timely service, among others.
Therefore, soliciting client feedback provides insights into what one can enjoy about a particular establishment and what they anticipate. Without a doubt, it successfully raises customer service standards. Based on consumer comments and thoughts, restaurants strive to not only provide a fantastic dining experience for their clients, but also to increase repeat business and improve their brand image.
Here is the current list of the top ten restaurants in Cape Town, that have been earning rave reviews from satisfied consumers. The report will make a cross-reference to the previous rankings and the current ones accordingly.

A cross-comparison of the previously listed restaurants to the current ones, clearly shows that majority of these restaurants understand what’s on stake when it comes to online reputation. All establishments maintained the same rating except for Marco’s African Place, which dropped from a 4.5-star rating to a 4.4-star rating, resulting in Pitso’s Kitchen replacing them in the top ten. Pisto’s Kitchen is the new entrant and, currently, holds a 4.6-star rating.
Conversely, some restaurants in the sector have been advocating for this rating to no longer be one-way. Instead, establishments desire to rate consumers as well. Restaurants would benefit from knowing what sort of client is coming to their tables, especially when it comes to reservations, last-minute cancellations, no-shows, and those who show up with barely half the number of persons scheduled. Perhaps this would give clarity to ratings. Nonetheless, it’s a topic for a different day.
Reviews are also critical to the importance of restaurants and work in tandem with ratings to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty in the long run. eKomi understands the importance of both, hence we further analysed the top-rated African restaurants in Cape Town.

Such results are all the more amazing because having a good rating with a large sample size is a very desirable feature. There are also, two new entries in the reviews’ category namely, Bukhara Cape Town CBD with 612 reviews and Pitso’s Kitchen with 255 reviews. Such improvements are proof of the elimination of Fatima’s West Africa Restaurant and Little Ethiopia, from the list of the most reviewed top ten.
Congratulations are also in order for the Owners and the Teams of the top three companies, and the rest of the listed African restaurants, for their great leadership that reflects in the high value of reviews.
