eKomi StarInsights™ on Energy Companies – revisited

BERLIN, September 21, 2017 – eKomi, the world’s largest provider of user-validated ratings and reviews, has just released a revisited StarInsights™ (Ref.# 06042017vs2) study, on Germany’s most reviewed and best-rated energy providers.

After the release of the first StarInsightsstudy about German energy companies a few months ago, eKomi received quite a lot of requests from this particular sector from companies that are interested in finding out how customers’ feedback influenced their score this semester or were simply curious to see how their competitors performed.

Since the market is quite fluid, eKomi analysts decided to release today an updated version of the existent study. Using exactly the same methodology, eKomi checked the updated total number of Online Reviews and Star Ratings aggregated in Google shopping seller of these energy providers in Germany.

Ratings and Reviews are crucial to an online company’s success since they provide a relatively reliable indicator of that site’s usefulness and user-friendliness. They build trust to their target audience, improve conversion rates and sales, plus they complete a strategic marketing plan while they improve the SEO score in search engines and bring traffic. With that correlation in mind, eKomi’s StarInsights™ study re-examined the TOP energy providers in Germany, using their aggregated Google Shopping Seller Ratings from the past 12 months.

Among all Energy companies studied for the period of April 2017 to September 2017, these five came out as StarInsights™ winners, in the category: Most Reviewed Energy Companies in Germany.

ExtraEnergie GmbH seems to hold its royal position firmly as it is once again the King on reviews of energy companies and remains on the top of the StarInsights list achieving the highest score with 5.250 reviews (previously /5.628). The Star Rating remains the same and it’s a 4.6 out of 5.

Vattenfall GmbH remained the second most reviewed energy company, but it experienced a great increase in the number of reviews. Today it receives a total of  2.946 Online reviews (previously /2.168) and enjoys the second best position in our StarInsights™. Apart from the optimization of reviews, the company lost one-tenth of its Star Rating, moving from 4.3 to 4.2 out of 5 Stars.

The third best position has also remained untouched as once again is held by E.ON Energie GmbH, which saw a drop in the number of reviews received. A total of 1.237 reviews is collected up to date  (previously /2.046). Good news is that the Star Rating remained intact to 4.5 out of 5.

An important reposition on this StarInsights is met on positions four and five. Entega AG has succeeded to climb one position up and is now on top four position (previously /top five). It has doubled the number of reviews received gathering now a total of 1.017 (previously /548) reviews up to date and a 4.3/5 Star Rating.

lekker Energie GmbH has seen its number of reviews drop by almost 160 figures in the last 6 months, receiving a total number of 519 reviews up to date dragging down also the company’s Star Rating from 4.4 to now a 4.3/5 . The company is still on the list of top five energy companies in Germany, as it manages to receive the fifth highest number of reviews compared to its competitors.

In our  StarInsights™ below five companies came out as winners, in the category: Best-Rated Energy Companies in Germany.

On the top of the list, Polarstern Energie receives an absolutely perfect 5 out of 5 Star Rating winning the battle by exceeding the second best by 0.4 points.

Joint second position for extraenergie and SWK Energie GmbH that both scored a 4.6 out of 5 Star Rating. The later has just entered the battlefield of reviews and ratings and impresses with a great quality score that managed to achieve in such a short period of time!

In position number four we spotted E.ON AG as in previous energy StarInsights™, with the same old good 4.5 out of 5 Star Rating!

Last but not least WEMAG (previously named WEMIO) with a new domain name, reached the top of the list in position number five with a 4.4 out of 5 Star Rating.

Star Wars – Important Changes and New Entries

Analysis : Apart from the changes in the total number of collected reviews, in this revisited StarInsights™ on the German Energy Companies, there has been an impressive shift to the indexing of the Best-Rated companies as well.

Polarstern Energie stood out overwhelmingly among other companies in this segment as is now entering eKomi StarInsights™ with an absolutely perfect 5 out of 5 Star Rating and a total of 200 reviews, climbing on the Top of the list. Greenpeace Energy fell off its throne and is no longer appearing in Google shopping seller results at all. This could be explained by the fact that Google requires that websites receive 150 reviews before making their reviews and Star Rating public. In addition, the reviews must be collected within the last 12 months and have a composite score greater than 3.5 in order to be recognised by Google.

123Energie has lost its silver medal together with its public Star Rating (previously 179 reviews and 4.7/5 Star Rating) since it is now not appearing in the Google Shopping Seller at all. Again, this could be due to a reduced number of reviews meaning that their coveted Google Seller Rating stars have been lost.

extraenergie also received almost 300 fewer reviews compared to our previous StarInsights, but its Star Rating score remained the same 4.6/5 and its total index has been better since the company moved from third to second best-rated energy company position in Germany.

SWK Energie GmbH , Polarstern Energie and WEMAG were warmly welcomed to the list of this StarInsights promising a glorious future in the field of online reviews and ratings.

There is still one energy company that although not listed in the top five of the StarInsights™ companies, has still received a considerable amount of reviews and a Star Rating. This is Ewe with a total of 205 reviews up to date and a 4.0/5 Average Star Rating through Google shopping seller.

For the rest of the Energy provider companies in Germany, there have not been many changes, unfortunately.

The Importance of Ratings and Reviews

Customer feedback is extremely important for companies as positive assessments have a strong impact on the purchasing behavior of new and existing customers. A survey by the marketing specialist BrightLocal shows that 75% of consumers state that when reading positive reviews online, they trust the business more. Reviews that are included in the Google search results help increase users’ click-throughs and bring more visitors to the company’s website. The purchase volume and the volume of transactions are also increasing.

If one of these energy providers decide to introduce reviews to their websites, they could potentially grow their market share in Germany significantly at the expense of the other, just by moving up their Google ranking and improve Online trust,” commented Michael Ambros, eKomi Founder and CEO.

Customer ratings and reviews, especially when integrated into Google search results, motivate users (and potential customers) to visit a company’s website. They are a crucial element in driving overall website traffic, thereby increasing revenue-generating activities from visitors.
