BERLIN, August 8, 2017 – eKomi, the world’s largest provider of user-validated ratings and reviews, has just released another StarInsights™ (Ref.# 01072017) study. This study is an overview of the online-automotive marketplaces in Europe and the USA. The methodology of this study is based on comparative figures publicly released in Google Shopping Seller and collected within the last 12 months.
Used Automotive Marketplace Overview
The reality of the used-car market in the USA is reflected in a recent article published in Forbes. Two key drivers are identified as important: the rise of the average price per used vehicle and the used vehicle age, compared to those nearing the end of their useful lives.
What is also mentioned in the same article is the paradox that although the average car value is increasing, the volume of sales is not slowing down. As demonstrated using the data summarized by Edmunds Media, the numbers of vehicles sold have been growing on a year-over-year basis over the last three years, which is beneficial for companies selling used vehicles.
With such potential growth rates and growing volumes of the used car industry, it is interesting to check the popularity of companies compared to each other in the field of reviews and ratings.
Renowned digital-marketing experts agree on the following: Companies that use customer and product evaluations for marketing campaigns, e-commerce transactions, and social recommendations achieve higher visibility and more online sales. “61% of consumers read customer reviews before making a purchase decision. That is why they are essential” says Graham Carlton, Chief Editor of Econsultancy.
The Most Reviewed Automotive Marketplace Portals for Used Vehicles

The Autotrader portal of UK and Ireland is by far the most reviewed automotive marketplace portal, occupying position #1 on our StarInsights™ with 12.529 online reviews up to date. Webuyanycar is the second most reviewed portal of the category with 9.150 reviews and almost double the number of True Car portal that occupies position number three with 4.088 reviews.
In the StarInsights™ list of the most reviewed portals in the automotive marketplace, Carvana receives 2.690 reviews and is found in position number four. With almost half the reviews in position number five, the German portal Wir kaufen dein Auto (English: we buy your car) collects 1.828 reviews up to date and is still in the top five most received Online Automotive marketplaces in Europe and the United States.
Best-Rated Used Automotive Marketplace Portals

In eKomi Top StarInsights™ list of Best-Rated Used Automotive Marketplace Portals, there is a joint first position with an almost perfect 4.9 out of 5 Star Rating for three different companies: Wir Kaufen dein Auto, Noi compriamo auto and Clicars. Joint fourth position for Carvana and Car Sale 24 who both received a 4.8 out of 5 Star Rating.
What is really impressive though, is the fact that the three TOP Best-Rated portals of this StarInsights™ are coming from three different countries; Germany, Italy, and Spain. Gaining online trust, improving customer online experience and increasing conversion rates, seem to be interrelated factors of high importance to the success of companies belonging to this particular vertical.
Having seriously considered the review and rating system in their strategic approach, with a clear focus on garnering positive results and accepting negative one by “fixing” the problematic areas, they have all pushed themselves above many of their competitors.

An interesting observation is that Wizzle appears to have momentum and be disrupting the UK market with almost 1.500 reviews collected since the start of 2017 and an average star rating of 4.6 out of 5.
As a general note, the Spanish “Concesionario de Coches” Canal Car, is expected to jump into the top positions in our next StarInsights™ Study on this vertical since just within two months the portal managed to collect the necessary minimum number of reviews that Google requires in order to be integrated. Public reviews build trust before visitors even click the auto marketplace portals links, significantly increasing its chances of receiving more traffic.
In addition, Carvana is more likely to gain more ground in the following months and possibly climb up higher in this list. The reason is that it is only one tenth away from the best-rated portals in the Star Rating, but the number of reviews received is by far the biggest in comparison to the other portals.
Companies without Online Reviews
Those two companies below have received a Star Rating but have either not released their reviews online, or not managed to collect the minimum required number of 150 reviews so that Google releases them in public.
- Autotrader: autotrader.com – 4.5 Average Star Rating and No Active Reviews in the last 12 months across Google Shopping Seller
- Carmax: carmax.com – 3.7 Average Star Rating and No Active Reviews in the last 12 months across Google Shopping Seller
All companies listed below are found and then chosen to be part of this StarInsights™ list based on their ranking when searching organically in Google. This leaves a great potential for improving their Google rank and conversion rates when a review and rating-seller system are activated. Till now, and for the last 12 months, these companies have not activated neither yet released their reviews and rating in Google shopping seller.Companies that have not activated yet their Online reviews or Star Rating.
