eKomi releases StarInsights™ for top 100 Online Shops in Germany

eKomi (Berlin).The team of analysts at eKomi spent weeks undergoing extensive research in order to discover the crème de la crème of Germany’s online shops. The study was based on Google’s Aggregated Shopping Seller Ratings and Reviews and all data are collected by today.

Stressing out the importance of online public reviews for e-businesses, especially with brands trying to build trust online and obtain loyal customers, we created in our latest StarInsights™ study a list of those successful companies in Germany that reach the top of the roof.

A few months ago, iBusiness disclosed the 100 most powerful Online Shops in Germany. The list was based on the volume of turnover they reached in the past year. Amazon.de, atto.de, zalando.de, notebookbilliger.de, cyberport.de, bonprix.de, tchibo.de, Conrad.de, alternate.de and apple.com.de were the top 10 most powerful online shops in Germany. For our StarInsights™ study, we collected reviews and ratings from Google’s Aggregated Shopping Seller. Today, we are ready to disclose which companies received the most reviews and which scored the highest star rating. In addition, we created our unique eKomi TOP 100 list based on a combination of different parameters we measured.

The Companies that received the most reviews:

It is very interesting to see that the top of the list is conquered with two online pharmacy stores. Shop Apotheke managed to hit the top of our list (#1) with 198.098 reviews and Medikamente per klick follows in the second position (#2) with 162.537 reviews up to date, through Google Shopping Seller. Conrad is an online shop for electronics which seems to please its online customers who within the last 12 months wrote in public 105.073 reviews and gets position number three (#3). The well-known fashion brand Esprit is the only clothing, shoes, and accessories online store that is not only included in the list of the 100 most successful online stores in Germany but also included in the list of ten most reviewed companies occupying position number four (#4 ) with 98.116 reviews up to date. In position five (#5) we found the digital second-hand shop Medi mops with 86.658 reviews.

For the sake of the analysis, in this StarInsights study, we expanded our top reviewed companies by adding five more inputs. So, in position number six (#6) we have My toys an online shop “all about kids” that received 72.019 reviews. Buecher is found in position number seven (#7) offering to those interested in making any type of book purchase online 64.869 reviews from previous customers within the last 12 months. The online department store Galeria Kaufhof is placed in position eight (#8) with 50.792 reviews. People seem not only to love their pets but also leave their reviews on their favorite animal store Zoo Plus, which has gathered 48.811 reviews and occupied position number nine (#9). Last but not least, Germany’s electronics online shop Media Markt gets position number ten (#10) with 41.441 reviews up to date.

The Companies with the best rating:Auragentum receives a star rating of 5 out of 5 in Google Seller Ratings. Goldsmith and precious metal online shop has been for sure a highly recommended company. IKEA on the other hand, get an average of 4,9 star rating, but has not yet released the reviews into the public. Joint second position for Shop Apotheke, Medikamente per Klick who have done a fantastic job in collecting reviews online. My Theresa shares come in at position number two, but with fewer reviews than the others.

C&A the well know clothing brand has been on the joint sixth position with Medi Mops, Kfz Teile 24, Ernstings Family and Sanicare. Unfortunately though, C&A has not activated yet the online reviews possibly performing less competitively than other fashion companies. As we have studied on our UK Fashion Portals StarInsights™, the necessity of using an online rating and reviews platform has been a determinant factor in the retention and acquisition of existent and prospective online fashion customers.

Pointing out the importance of ratings and reviews in online businesses, we created a parallel board to the one i-business released for the most successful online shops in Germany.

Our methodology: we used a simple mathematical formula in order to correlate the ranking they got in i-business with the total number of reviews and star ratings received through Google Shopping Seller. Then via a simple equation, added a)revenue rank b)review engagement rank and c)star rank, we got an overall score for every single company listed there (a+b+c). At the bottom of the page, we present you the StarInsights™ ranking for the top 100 online shops in Germany.

So what makes an Online Brand successful?

Our analysis shows that it is a combination of various factors that need to apply almost in equal terms in order to meet the – so much desired – success. A company shall definitely prioritise on revenues and positive figures, but in order to add some euros in the bank account, a strong online presence that makes the customer feel safe and secure, together with the public release of reviews from previous customers are a well tasted success recipe.

Die Analyse basiert auf dem Bewertungsschnitt sowie der Gesamtzahlt der Bewertungen, die in den letzten 12 Monaten gesammelt und von Google ausgespielt wurden. Einige Krankenkasse legen einen hohen Wert auf echte und transparente Bewertungen, welche den Website Traffic signifikant erhöhen und somit zu höheren Transaktionszahlen führen können.

Die Studienreihe liefert branchenspezifische Daten zu den führenden Unternehmen mit der höchsten Anzahl und Qualität von Kundenbewertungen und Meinungen. Öffentlich sichtbares Feedback von echten Kunden ist in der digitalen Welt zu einem wichtigen Erfolgsfaktor geworden. Renommierte Experten sind sich einig: Unternehmen, die Kunden- und Produktbewertungen für MarketingKampagnen, E-Commerce Transaktionen und soziale Weiterempfehlungen nutzen, erreichen online eine höhere Sichtbarkeit und mehr Umsatz. „61% der Konsumenten lesen Kundenbewertungen, bevor sie eine Kaufentscheidung treffen. Kundenmeinungen sind für Unternehmen äußerst wichtig, weil positive Bewertungen einen starken Einfluss auf das Kaufverhalten von Neu- und Bestandskunden haben. Eine Umfrage des Marketingspezialisten BrightLocal zeigt, dass 68% der amerikanischen Internetnutzer einem Unternehmen mehr vertrauen, wenn es positiv bewertet wird. Bewertungen, die in die Google Suchergebnisse eingebunden sind, sorgen für höhere Klickraten der Nutzer und bringen mehr Besucher auf die Webseite des Unternehmens. Dort steigen die Kaufabschlüsse und das Transaktionsvolumen.

Diese StarInsightsStudie untersuchte die Nutzung von transaktionsbasierten Kundenbewertungen bei den führenden Energielieferanten und Energieunternehmen in Deutschland. Die Platzierungen Energieunternehmenmit den meisten Bewertungen im Überblick:

Zuerst wurden die Krankenversicherungen mit den meisten Bewertungen insgesamt analysiert:

ERGO Direkt Versicherungen: Ergo ist die eindeutige Nummer mit 36.917 gesammelten Bewertungen in den letzten 12 Monaten. DKV – Deutsche Krankenversicherung: DKV liegt mit 7.298 Bewertungen auf Platz 2. HanseMerkur Krankenversicherung AG: HanseMerkur ist mit 1.124 gesammelten Bewertungen auf Platz 3. Württembergische Krankenversicherung AG liegt mit 1.086 Reviews auf Platz 4 und ENVIVAS Krankenversicherung AG: ENVIVAS mit 1.072 auf Platz 5.

Die Studie ergibt, dass HanseMerkur und AXA mit einem Schnitt von 4.8 Sternen die Führung übernehmen. ERGO Direkt und WÜRTTEMBERGISCHE liegen mit einem Bewertungsschnitt von 4,7 auf Platz 2, gefolgt von DEVK, DKV und ARAG auf Platz 3 mit einem Schnitt von 4.6 .ENVIVAS, HUK und BARMENIA  liegen mit 4,5 Sternen jeweils auf Platz 4 und Allianz mit 3,9 Sternen auf Platz 5.

eKomi launches StarInsights™ for Top Fashion Portals in UK

(Berlin) eKomi is the largest provider of user-validated ratings and reviews and has today launched StarInsights™ (Report ref. 12042017), a study based on Google shopping seller ratings and reviews about the MOST REVIEWED as well as the BEST RATED fashion portals in the UK.

Based on Eurostat report released last February about e-commerce statistics for individuals in Europe, over 8 in 10 internet users in the United Kingdom (87 %), Denmark (84 %) and Germany (82 %) had bought or ordered goods or services over the internet in the previous 12 months. And exactly which type of goods or services did buyers purchase online? Eurostat reveals “Clothes and sports goods predominate in online purchases”.

What brings success?

Taking into consideration the recently released statistics, we decided to dig into the important factors that determine the success of an online fashion business. The use of high-quality images, an easy payment process, a fast loading website, a quality design, a user-friendly website with excellent product descriptions and an effective customer support are the blood and flesh of online success. The StarInsights™ study reveals top UK Fashion Portals:

So, we decided to take a closer look at the predominant UK fashion portals and find out which are the MOST REVIEWED and BEST RATED.  Our latest StarInsights™ study reveals the following table:The facts:

NEW LOOK  is top of the line with a total of 37.376 reviews on Google Sell Ratings and an average star rating of 4,5;  it is currently the most reviewed Fashion Portal of all.

TKMAXX  occupies position #2 with 35.543 reviews and an average star rating of 4,4. BOOHOO is found in the third position with a total of  7.447 reviews and an average star rating of 4,1.

Up there with these industry dominating UK fashion companies, we spotted ESPRIT with 3.737 reviews and an average star rating of 4.6! We underline here the fact that Esprit has received a much better star rating score than those companies found in the second and third position!

Last but not least in position Number #5 of StarInsights top five list, we spotted  BRAND ALLEY with a total of 3.185 reviews.

What about the BEST RATED UK Fashion portals?

Of the top 5 UK fashion portals, we have three that dominate:  BRAND ALLEY,  MY THERESA and ATOM RETROAll these top 3 fashion portals receive an impressive 4,9 rate in Google Seller and get ranking number one (joint first)! Marks & Spencer receives an average star rating of 4.8 and occupies position 4. Esprit is found within the top 5 best rated UK fashion portals and gets ranking number 5 with an average star rating of 4.6 in Google Seller Shopping.

The Nielsen Survey about online trust revealed among others that 70% of people trust opinions posted online. Online reviews were the second most trusted form of advertising, with ‘recommendations from people I know’ beating it to first place. This data once again stresses out the importance of online reviews.

German Landscape

We thought to broaden our analysis by checking the most popular Fashion portals in Germany in comparison to the UK market, and the results are simply impressive:

The well-known brand Esprit.de has managed to receive 101.465 active reviews up to date through Google Shopping Seller and an Average Star Rating of 4.5 and heads to the top of the pyramid leaving far behind all other fashion portals.

Zalando, one of the strongest fashion players in Germany with expanding international activities received an average star rating of 4.7 and 14.519 active reviews in the last 12 months.

Lesara follows, with 13.974 active reviews and an average star rating of 4.4 through Google Shopping Seller.

Aboutyou receives an average star rating of 4.5 with 11.251 active reviews in the last 12 months.

eKomi Releases 2017 StarInsights™ Study for the Consumer Electronics Industry

LOS ANGELES, Apr. 13, 2017 – eKomi, the world’s the largest provider of user-validated ratings and reviews, had released its long-awaited 2017 StarInsights™ 10042017, an exclusive report on the web’s top consumer electronics merchants. This marks the second year in a row that eKomi has delivered this analysis.

After weeks of intensive research, eKomi’s team of consumer-review experts have compared year-over-year performance of all electronics portals on the definitive Internet Retailer 500 (IR 500) list, along with many others not found on the IR500, who’ve nonetheless exhibited outstanding performance over the past 12 months.

The analysis team has also compared each merchant’s ratings and reviews against those in eKomi’s 2016 Consumer Electronics Report, creating a year-over-year performance analysis for all merchants that remained among the top performers – along with several who dropped out of that exclusive list. In addition, the researchers discovered several merchants that did not rank among the top performers in last year’s report, but have risen to top the charts this year with standout ratings and review scores.

 The Crucial Importance of Ratings and Reviews

As many merchants now recognize, customer ratings and reviews are absolutely essential for success in the online marketplace – especially when those scores are integrated into Google search results. Although a comprehensive, user-friendly site is obviously crucial, public reviews build trust before visitors even click the site’s link, significantly increasing its chances of receiving traffic.

Reviews and ratings also boost revenue-generating activity, and inspire even more positive reviews – setting off a “virtuous cycle” in which a well-reviewed website’s popularity continues to skyrocket. Poor reviews, on the other hand, can set off a downward spiral: a site’s sudden disappearance from top search results can abruptly destroy its customer base.

A 2017 ZenDesk survey discussed in Forbes reported that a staggering 88 percent of customers make buying decisions based on online customer reviews. This makes it clear that publicly visible feedback from real customers is a key component in a merchant’s success. And as Google’s search algorithms grow ever smarter, positive reviews and ratings are becoming especially vital in the heated competition for those all-important “above-the-fold” natural search rankings.

Consumer Electronics Market Overview

Just as positive ratings and reviews are crucial to a site’s success, they also provide a relatively reliable indicator of that site’s usefulness and user-friendliness. With that correlation in mind, eKomi’s StarInsights™ study examines the TOP consumer electronics retailers, using their aggregated Google Shopping Seller Ratings from the past 12 months.

Among all electronics retailers studied for the period of April 2016 to April 2017, these five came out the clear winners:

In addition, while researching Google’s Shopping Portal, eKomi found two consumer electronics merchants not listed on the IR 500, who still stood out overwhelmingly among other merchants in their segment. They are:

  • Abt Electronics: ABT Electronics – 7,177 Ratings & Reviews to date across Google Shopping Selling; Ratings from the past 12 months have an average Star Rating of 4.7
  • Checkout Store: Check Out Store – 1,105 Ratings & Reviews to date across Google Shopping Selling; Ratings from the past 12 months have an average Star Rating of 4.7

Year-Over-Year Trend Analysis

eKomi’s research team compared the ratings and reviews of all electronics merchants that ranked in the top charts in 2016’s report, and discovered several striking year-over-year shifts.

B&H Photo Video has seen its number of reviews drop by nearly half, from 542,498 to only 331,992 – although its review score has held steady at 4.7. Newegg saw its number of reviews plummet from 312,343 to only 86,359 – though its review score held steady at 4.4. BuyDig saw a drop in number of reviews from 128,345 to 26,111, along with a significant drop in review score from 4.7 to 4.4.

Other contenders’ performance has seen a mix of positive and negative change. Adorama saw a steep drop in number of reviews, from 48,843 down to just 15,635 – but its score jumped one tenth of a star, from 4.4 to 4.5. YesAsia has also seen a major drop in number reviews, down from 658 to only 345 – but its star score has also risen a point, from 4.6 to 4.7. TigerDirect saw the steepest drop in reviews of any merchant this year, from 146,705 down to only 2,218 – but its star rating increased dramatically from 4.1 to 4.3.

Meanwhile, several merchants that ranked among 2016’s top performers have fallen out of the top rankings altogether in 2017, due to a sharp drop in their ratings and review scores. Google records no ratings or reviews at all for Dell.com, Panasonic.com, PCConnection.com, pcRUSH.com, Rakuten.com, and 47StPhoto.com, over the period from April 2016 to April 2017.

“If these merchants hope to regain their top spots, they’ll need to make a concerted effort to gather positive ratings and reviews over the next 12 months,” commented Michael Ambros, eKomi Founder and CEO. “We’ve seen time and again, across a wide range of sectors, that brands who activate their reviews and ratings see a dramatic leap in search engine referred traffic, and a corresponding boost in revenue.”

New Players on the Chart

Several key players have hit the top chart for the first time this year. Philips entered with a stunning 4.8 rating, despite having no active seller reviews to date. Sonic Electronics stood out with a 3,917 ratings and reviews to date, and an average star rating of 4.5. Abt Electronics also demanded attention with 7,177 ratings and reviews, and an average star rating of 4.7. Checkout Store achieved an impressive 1,105 ratings and reviews, with an average star rating of 4.7. Electronic Express made an impressive showing with 501 ratings and reviews, and an average star rating of 4.4.  GearXS, despite an average Star Rating of only 4.3, gathered a respectable 1,024 ratings and reviews. And Earphone Solutions, despite having only 333 ratings and reviews, attained the highest star rating of any merchant analyzed this year – a near-perfect 4.8.

None of these companies appeared on the top chart in 2016’s report – but their focus on garnering positive ratings and reviews over the past 12 months has pushed them above many of their  competitors. In fact, large numbers of reviews and high ratings have enabled several smaller companies – most notably B&H Photo Video and Abt Electronics – to gain significant market share this year.

“These smaller retailers have acquired significant market share thanks to their high search rankings,” continues Michael Ambros. “This year-over-year research really calls out the impact that reviews and ratings can have on a company’s success, regardless of its size or advertising budget.”

This second edition of eKomi’s annual study, #10042017, focused on the online consumer electronics market, highlights the importance of having a trusted feedback platform that assists customers when making an electronics purchase decision.

B&H Photo Video is by far the most reviewed company as it received 331.992 within the last 12 months. Newegg follows on the second best most reviewed position with 86.359 reviews. Travelocity  is not far behind the best since it follows in second position with almost half; a total of 156.665 reviews and an average star rating of 4,3. In the third position we found Orbitz with a total of 101.149 reviews. Extraenergie ist die eindeutige Nummer mit 5.628 gesammelten Bewertungen in den letzten 12 Monaten. VATTENFALL liegt mit 2.168 Bewertungen auf Platz 2. E.ON ist mit 2.022 gesammelten Bewertungen auf Platz 3. Lekker Energie liegt mit 683 Reviews auf Platz 4 und Entega Energie mit 543 auf Platz 5. 

Außerdem wurden die Firmen mit dem besten Bewertungsschnitt aufgelistet:

 Die Studie ergibt, dass Greenpeace Energy eG mit einem Schnitt von Sternen die Führung übernimmt. 123energie liegt mit einem Bewertungsschnitt von 4,7 auf Platz 2, gefolgt von Extraenergie auf Platz 3 mit einem Schnitt von 4.6 E.ON AG & Wemio liegen mit 4,5 Sternen jeweils auf Platz 4 und Platz 5. 

Die 2 Energiedienstleister, die besonders auffallen, sind Extraenergie, die in beiden Kategorien in den TOP 3 liegt und mit den meisten Bewertungen führt, sowie Greenpeace Energy eG, die mit einem Durchschnitt von 5 Sternen überdurchschnittlich gut abschneidet. Außerdem hat die E.ON AG es jeweils in die Top 5 geschafft.

Laut einer offiziellen Google Studie erhöht sich die Click-Through-Rate (CTR) von Firmen, die mit Sternen in der Suche glänzen und in den Google Seller Ratings teilnehmen durschnittlich um 17%. Außerdem stärken Bewertungen das Vertrauen in das Unternehmen und erleichtern somit die Kaufentscheidung.

The first StarInsights™  Study (30032017) on Real Estate looked at the Top portals and reveals that Zoopla, Zillow and Remax are the best ranked portals in USA and UK. Surprisingly though these companies have not activated their official Google seller reviews. In addition, same study acknowledges that popular real estate portals like Rightmove, Centrury21 do not currently use customer feedback tools, potentially driving them to gain less credibility online.
